Lem's latest: Schaefer anticipated four-man tournament; Khan moves on?

alt Richard Schaefer says the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight is nearly two years away.

It was back on Jan 13 during an interview with RingTV.com  Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer made the following statement predicting that Manny Pacquiao would be matched against Tim Bradley, and Juan Manuel Marquez opposite Lamont Peterson.

"What Top Rank CEO Bob Arum wants to do is have Pacquiao fight Timothy Bradley, and he wants Juan Manuel Marquez to fight Peterson," said Schaefer. "Let's just say that I have my sources that he wants to have Pacquiao fight Bradley. I have my sources. End of story."

On Thursday, Arum all-but made Schaefer a prophet, announcing that the Marquez-Peterson winner would get a shot at that between Pacquiao and Bradley in November, that is, if a bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr.and Pacquiao does not come to fruition by the fall.

"All of those people who thought that they were going to see a November Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, you know, they were just dreaming. Arum is not going to put Pacquiao in with Floyd because he knows that Pacquiao is going to lose," said Schaefer on Friday.

"The only time that Arum is going to put Pacquiao in with Floyd is when Pacquiao is at the end of his career. I think that's going to be sometime in the second half of 2013. If Pacquiao keeps winning, that's when I think that fight will happen."

WHAT'S NEXT FOR MAYWEATHER?

Mayweather is scheduled to begin serving an 87-day jail sentence staring on June 1,having targeted May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for his next fight while Arum has slotted Pacquiao for a clash on June 9.

In the absence of Pacquiao, the advisor of Miguel Cotto acknowledged that the WBA junior middleweight beltholder has had talks with Mayweather about a potential fight.

Other considerations are WBC junior middleweight titlewinner Saul Canelo Alvarez, although Schaefer would offer little about the negotiations.

"I'm not going to say that it's come down to two or three or four in the press. I'm just going to say that we're diligently working on an opponent for Floyd," said Schaefer. "We're a day or two or three from announcing that. But first we're going to get it done before we begin speculating and things like that."
